Welcome back to the next episode of our podcast series ‘Sepsis’. Two weeks ago, we launched our first podcast: ‘Sepsis Evolution – where we came from’. In this first podcast we discussed 25 years of sepsis evolution: the Rivers-study, the 3 big sepsis trials (ProCESS, ARISE and ProMISe) and the brand-new meta-analysis PRISM. We also discussed SIRS and the problems with SIRS.
This second podcast on Sepsis-3 reflects the content of our presentation at the Tenth Dutch North Sea Emergency Medicine Conference.
In approximately 15 minutes, we will tell you about the rationale for Sepsis-3, the process of development, the new quick SOFA score (qSOFA) and the comparison between qSOFA and other scoring systems. We will discuss how you can use both SIRS and qSOFA in your daily practice.

Tijd voor een nieuwe podcast over Sepsis! Twee weken geleden publiceerden we onze eerste podcast: ‘Sepsis Evolution – where we came from’. Hierin kon je horen wat er de afgelopen 25 jaar allemaal is gebeurd op het gebied van sepsis: o.a. de landmark-studie van Rivers, de 3 grote sepsis trials (ProCESS, ARISE en ProMISe) en de recent verschenen meta-analyse PRISM. Ook hadden we het over SIRS en de problemen die we met SIRS hebben.
In deze tweede podcast bespreken we Sepsis-3. De inhoud van deze podcast was ook te horen op de tiende Dutch North Sea Emergency Medicine Conference.
In ongeveer 15 minuten praten we je bij over de ideeën voor nieuwe sepsis definities, het ontwikkelingsproces van Sepsis-3, uiteraard de nieuwe score quick SOFA (qSOFA) en de vergelijking die vervolgens werd gemaakt tussen qSOFA en andere scoringssystemen. We bespreken hoe je zowel SIRS en qSOFA op jouw SEH kan gebruiken.
